PCMS Counseling Department
The PCMS Counseling Department strives to enhance the academic, career and personal/social development of all of students in a safe and inclusive environment. In order to reach this goal, we facilitate classroom guidance lessons, provide small group counseling, and individual counseling sessions.
Classroom Guidance Lessons
PCMS Counselors facilitate guidance lessons throughout the school year which gives us a change to interact with all of our students in the classroom. Lessons typically last 30-60 minutes in length and cover topics such as high school planning, career readiness, problem solving skills, friendship/conflict resolution, and study skills.
Small Group Counseling
Small counseling groups are offered to students who may benefit from spending extra time developing coping skills, conflict resolution strategies, managing life-changes with other students experiencing similar situations. Groups are organized based on students' needs. Groups can have anywhere from 5-8 members and usually meet once a week for at least 6 weeks.
* Current Groups Available
Ms. Havens will facilitate an Anxiety Workshop group for 6th grade students this fall. Parents/Guardians must sign a parent permission form in order for students to participate. Permission forms are available in the counseling office. We hope to facilitate additional small groups. Please contact Ms. Havens if you and/or your child are interested in participating in one.
Our priority is your child's safety and education. Sometimes students experience obstacles that become barriers to their academic success during the school day. Counselors are available for Individual counseling, peer mediation, academic advisement and career planning sessions throughout the school day.
In order to support the needs of all of our students, PCMS Counselors regularly collaborate with faculty, families and community stakeholders. So, please do not hesitate to contact us!
